in the world of factory presets, default settings and copy-paste ethics, there are few artists that actually care to make a difference. and -who told you that?-, 29th release on warsaw recognition label, is certainly a voice to be heard. the title track is another subtle narrative from label boss jacek sienkiewicz. eerie chord and a solid, damp beat from the start are underpinned by sherds of dialogue - snippets of words and laughter keep coming back in the mix, providing some sort of uneasy commentary towards todays minimal house formula. but at some point the voices disappear - and then the tracks gently goes somewhere outside the boundaries of todays club music, somewhere otherworldly. this shift, albeit amazingly subtle, is a leap towards music free of any defined context, far beyond dancefloor and definitely original. if this sneak peak into the possible futures of manmachine induced visions is too much to handle, there is still the b-side of this release. two tracks here - both clocking around mere 5 minutes - are prime exercises in compact, clever, tight and efficient club tools. uplifting -cobalt drive- is bound to to be quoted and reworked into many forms of a late-night burner. patefon, on the other hand, is a peak-time stormer with its stuttering chords and moody samples, supposedly picked from some vintage shellac discs

who are these guys behind the pseudonyms? good guy mikesh and filburt are two music lovers… full stop! two independent acts that met in leipzig and began to merge their musical creative capacities two years ago. a convolution of disco, pop and house, propagating one of leipzigs most promising collaborative developments. good guy mikesh has haunted leipzigs contemporary underground for a long time. from the beginning of his musical career, his singles have signified an eclectic mix of pop, soul and disco. filburt - dj, record store owner and leipzig club scene veteran, was consequently good guy mikeshs best possible accomplice in the mission to break fresh ground. this mixture of soul, disco and house-pop is it, charged by the duos certain something - an energy sought for not only in this town, but throughout the whole scene. someone told me, their latest single, has been causing an outbreak of contagious enthusiasm in the scene since its release on permanent vacation this summer. we are proud to release this fine ep, which comes with a remix by one of our uk favorites: mark e !

as a point of no return is referred in different contexts the date from which a return to the starting point is no longer possible. johnny ds oslo 014 confirms this with a truly musical climax. johnny d. presents after his hit >orbitalife< last year >point of no return<- a house track, which again emphasise the special feeling of that producer to tremble the dancefloor. here re playful vocals and a sexy groove on the program. also gardaness on the b side is a title not to be sneezed at. the nearly nine- minute tool is characterized by the impulsive bass line, which is highlighted by atmospheric vocals.

a little less than two and a half years after its conception—and close to 30 singles, one compilation, one mix cd and one sublabel later—berlins mobilee releases its first artist album. naturally, who better to represent the milestone than pan-pot, who so far have delivered five essential singles to mobilee, helping to anchor the ever-shifting sound of one of europes most exciting labels. in just two short years, with 10 singles (for mobilee and einmaleins musik) and lots of remixes, theyve become known far and wide for their distinctive, groovy, and above all ominous sound. pan-o-rama finds the boys stretching that sound in every possible direction: twisting, tearing, and using the shreds to drag a wide swath of techno history into the future (and, just maybe, to drag a few pieces of techno future back into the past). call it minimal if you must, but this aint no clickity-clack shit. you can hear the agonized gurgle of isolationist acid, reminiscent of plastikmans darkest nights. you can hear the percolating urgency of classic bleep techno. tried and true hardware collides with restless digital experimentation as dance musics dna worms its way into twisted new shapes. pan-o-rama is dark, thats for damned sure. eerie vocals that seem to come from within the listeners own head creep across the stereo field. throughout, restrained minor-key melodies conjure 21st century noir, and a relentless low-end rumble seems to suck up all the light around it

flint kids are london based electronic music duo dave smith & daniel nolan. they began writing together in 2000 on an akai mpc 2000, s600, korg trinity and 303. years later, after having brought laptops, logic, ableton and other electronic goodies, it became clear that the sounds they were hearing in their heads were possible to recreate. their passion for so many different styles of music saved them from ever being pigeonholed, glitches & bleeps fuse with organic matter fired from a techno blunderbuss to create a pool of binary sputum that finds no home in any one genre. what may begin as a well earned candlelit soak in the tub of ambiance can quickly drain away as they pull the plug, leaving the listener cascading down a dank, jagged hole with only a rung less ladder made of plasticine.... not for the faint hearted!

the latest gigolo release is one for the summer! aptly titled hot it comes courtesy of ivano coppola and christian prommer, the former being one of italia s most respected dj s and the latter being, amongst other things, one of the main collaborators for hells critically acclaimed album teufelswerk. taking a sample from willie ninjas classic record hot and building a track around the chords and the vocal leads us to our starting point ivano coppola plastic mix!
ivano coppola has been the resident dj at milan s plastic club since 1992, so it is fair to say that he knows what works on a dance floor, or, to use a popular phrase, what is hot and what is not. it is with this historical knowledge that we find the genesis of our track. i found it necessary to go back in the past, to start producing once again in a 90 style - using samples. the next step was to come back into the future and reach out to christian prommer, highly respected by many including ivan i consider (christian prommer) one of the best producers of the moment! he loved the idea, the remix was huge, and so we decided to co-produce the record. simple!!!
but, for christian this was more then a remix, hence the co-production credit! i liked the idea of translating an early 90 s house-music-sample in to a sample-style-percussive-techno-tune. lots of live played drums and percussion in this one, of course. i only later learned that the sample we used is from one of my house music heroes, maws louie vega. naturally the record found its way into the hands of gigolo in the best way possible, and in the tradition of such a great record label – i played it at the gigolo night in munich and hell came to me dancing and took the tune into his heart.
